Restorations / Composite Fillings

What are Composite Filings?

Most of us have had amalgam fillings (silver) or gold filling restorations. Some amalgam fillings were what we have called mercury fillings, as some amalgam fillings contained mercury. Metal fillings were effective, but very conspicuous and tended to blacken in color over time.

Composite fillings, also known as white (tooth coloured) fillings, were created as an alternative to traditional metal dental fillings. Natural colored bonded fillings are put in place to seal the tooth and prevent decay caused by bacteria infiltrating the inner part of the tooth. Composite Fillings are strong, durable, and make for a very natural looking smile.

Why consider Composite Fillings?

  • Chipped teeth
  • Repairing cracked and/or chipped teeth
  • Repairing decayed teeth
  • Improving discolored teeth
  • Closing gaps or spaces between teeth
  • Making teeth look longer
  • Protecting a portion of the tooth’s root that has been exposed
  • For Cosmetic Reasons
  • Alternatives to amalgam or mercury fillings
