Root Canal Therapy is necessary when tiny canals within your tooth is infected. If left untreated, it may result in a painful abscess, potential tooth and bone loss.

In order to save the tooth, the pulp, nerves, bacteria and any decay are removed and the resulting space is filled with special, medicated, dental materials, which restore the tooth to its full function.

Signs for possible root canal therapy:

• Severe toothache pain
• An abscess on the gums

• Swelling or tenderness

The Procedure

Normally, RCT takes two or more appointments for a complete treatment.

On the first appointment, the infected nerves are thoroughly cleaned out and then, a medication may have to be sealed in temporarily to eliminate all infection. There may be a few days of soreness after the procedure if the infection in the root canal was severe.

On the second appointment, the canals are then filled with a dental material and a permanant filling is placed to restore the tooth.Crowns are more common in most cases as they add strength to the tooth itself.
